The Regional Science Centre was officially opened by former Oldham Sixth Form College Principal Nick Brown OBE, on Wednesday 19th October.
Among the invited guests at the Opening were the Mayor of Oldham Cllr Richard Knowles and Youth Mayor Chantel Birtwistle, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council Shoab Akhtar and representatives from companies including Astra Zeneca, Diodes, Ferranti Technologies and Mass Spec UK. They also included colleagues from the science departments of various local universities including Manchester, Salford and Huddersfield and from the Ogden Trust.
Coming back to officially open the building, Nick Brown commented: "The opening of the Science Centre is the finest achievement of the Oldham Partnership which, at the time, was judged the best in Europe. It is also another example of the way the Sixth Form College has repaid the town for its investment and courage in building the College twenty years ago."
During the event a second plaque was unveiled, marking the dedication of the Exhibition Space to former Oldham Sixth Form College Chair of Governors Gloria Oates OBE, without whose support and commitment the Centre may never have come to fruition.
